Scale — Delete your account and data
There are two ways to delete your Scale account. The fastest is inside the app, and it needs nobody's approval. This page also gives you a route that works whether or not the app is installed, and whether or not you can still sign in.
Messaged a business on Instagram and want that deleted? You do not have a Scale account and there is nothing for you to sign in to. Skip to "If you messaged a business on Instagram" near the bottom of this page.
Delete it yourself, in the app
This is the quickest route and it takes effect immediately.
- Scale (customer): My Profile → Close your account → Delete my account.
- Scale Partner (business owner): Settings → Close your account → Delete my account.
The screen lists exactly what will be deleted and exactly what will not, before anything happens. You then confirm, and enter your app PIN. Deletion runs straight away — there is no waiting period, no request to approve, and no way to undo it.
If you have forgotten your PIN, tap Forgot PIN? at the lock screen: we send a code to your WhatsApp to verify your number again, you set a new PIN, and you can then delete the account. Nothing is deleted by doing this.
Ask us instead, by email
Use this if you cannot sign in, no longer have the app, or want only part of your data removed.
Email rohan.surve5@gmail.com with the subject "Scale account deletion request" and include:
- The mobile number your Scale account uses, in full (for example +91 98765 43210). This is the only identifier the account has.
- Which app — Scale (customer) or Scale Partner (business owner), or both.
- Whether you want the whole account deleted, or only specific data removed.
We will reply to confirm the request, and we may need to verify that you control that mobile number before acting — that check protects you from someone else deleting your records.
What gets deleted
Both routes delete the same things.
If you use Scale (the customer app)
Deleted: your account record — your mobile number, and the name and email you added in Profile. Your app stops being able to sign in, and the businesses you were connected to stop seeing you as a Scale user.
Not deleted: the records a business created about you in its own ledger (your name as they wrote it, and the payments they recorded). Those belong to that business, not to us. They will no longer be shown to you, and you may ask that business to delete them; tell us and we will pass the request on and help.
Because those records include your mobile number, that business can still contact you, and its copy of your number goes on existing in Scale as an unclaimed entry in its own ledger — the same state it was in before you ever installed the app. It carries no name, no email and no history of yours. If you install Scale again on that number you start from a blank profile.
If you use Scale Partner (the business owner app)
Deleted: your account record; your business profile; every customer record you created; every payment record you created; every record of a WhatsApp message the app prepared for you; and any connected message channel — including a connected Instagram account, its access token, the reply you wrote and the record of replies Scale sent.
Not deleted: the separate Scale accounts belonging to your customers. Those are theirs, and each person may request their own deletion the same way.
Disconnecting Instagram without closing your account
If you only want Scale to stop receiving your Instagram messages, you do not need to delete anything. In the Instagram app, turn off Settings → Messages and story replies → Message controls → Connected tools → Allow access to messages, or remove Scale under Settings → Website permissions → Apps and websites. Meta stops sending us messages immediately, and we delete the stored access token and the connection settings.
Deleting only some data, without closing the account
Most of this you can already do yourself inside the app — delete a customer, delete or void a payment, clear your name or email in Profile. Deleting a customer or a payment in the app archives it: it disappears from your lists and stops being visible to that customer, and it can be recovered if you deleted it by mistake. If you need an archived record permanently erased, say so in your email and name the record.
How long it takes, and what is kept
- An in-app deletion happens immediately. There is no grace period and nothing to cancel.
- We aim to complete a verified deletion requested by email within 30 days of confirming it.
- Deleted data may persist for a short further period in routine encrypted backups, which expire on their own schedule. It is not restored to the live service.
- We keep no retention period beyond that for deleted accounts, and we do not retain a copy for analytics or marketing. Neither app has analytics or ads. Scale Partner tells Meta when it is installed and opened, to measure our own ads; that holds none of your records, and we keep no copy of it.
- If a record must be kept to meet a legal obligation, we will tell you which record and why.
If you messaged a business on Instagram
Some businesses connect their Instagram account to Scale so that Scale can answer direct messages for them. If you sent one of those businesses a message, this is what we have and how to get rid of it.
What we hold about you
- An Instagram-scoped ID — an opaque code Meta gives us for you in relation to this app only. It is not your username, your name, your email or your phone number, and it is no use to anyone outside Scale.
- Meta's reference for your message, the time, and how many characters it contained.
- Not the text of your message. We do not store it.
- If the business had an automatic reply switched on, a record that we sent you that reply.
Most of the above sits in our server's technical logs and is deleted automatically after 30 days.
Stop it happening again — immediately, without asking us
In the Instagram app, open the conversation, then Settings → Website permissions → Apps and websites and remove the business's connected tool; or simply block or report the account. You can also ask the business itself to disconnect Scale.
Ask us to delete it
Email rohan.surve5@gmail.com with the subject "Instagram data deletion request" and tell us:
- Your Instagram username (for example
@yourname); - Which business you messaged — their Instagram handle or business name;
- Roughly when you messaged them.
We need those three things because the code Meta gives us does not tell us who you are — we cannot find your record without them. We will reply to confirm, and we aim to finish within 30 days. We may ask you to send the request from the Instagram account in question, or to confirm a detail of the conversation, so that somebody else cannot delete your record or use this route to find out whether you messaged a particular business.
What uninstalling does
Uninstalling the app removes everything the app stored on your phone — the offline copy of your records, your app PIN, your biometric preference, your language choice and your signed-in session. It does not delete your account or your records from our servers. Only deleting in the app, or a request made as described above, does that.
