Percentage Calculator Online — Calculate Any Percentage Instantly
Percentages come up everywhere — discounts, taxes, growth rates, test scores, profit margins. The calculation is simple in theory but doing it correctly in your head or on paper every time wastes more mental energy than it should.
The Percentage Calculator handles every type of percentage calculation instantly.
Three Types of Percentage Calculations
1. What is X% of Y? Example: What is 18% of ₹5,000? Answer: ₹900
Use this for calculating tax amounts, discounts, tips, and commission values.
2. X is what percentage of Y? Example: 900 is what percentage of 5,000? Answer: 18%
Use this for calculating scores, completion rates, market share, and ratio comparisons.
3. Percentage change from X to Y Example: Price went from ₹5,000 to ₹5,900. What is the percentage increase? Answer: 18% increase
Use this for growth rates, price changes, performance comparisons, and year-over-year metrics.

Test and exam scores — you got 67 out of 80. What percentage is that?
Business metrics — conversion rate, click-through rate, churn rate — all percentage calculations.
Percentage Points vs Percent — Don't Confuse Them
This is the percentage mistake that costs people the most. If a conversion rate rises from 4% to 6%, that's an increase of 2 percentage points — but a 50% increase in relative terms, because 2 is half of 4. Both are correct; they answer different questions. Reports that say "up 2%" when they mean "up 2 points" mislead readers. Be explicit about which one you mean.
Reverse Percentage — Finding the Original Number
A common real-world need: you have a price after a discount or tax and want to work back to the original. If an item costs ₹1,180 including 18% GST, the pre-tax price is not ₹1,180 minus 18%. It's ₹1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000. Subtracting 18% of the final figure gives the wrong answer, because the 18% was added to the smaller base. When you need the original from a "final" amount, divide rather than subtract.
Common Percentage Mistakes
- Adding percentages of different bases — 10% of one number plus 10% of another is not 10% of their sum unless the bases are equal.
- Stacking discounts — 20% off then a further 10% off is not 30% off; it's 28% off, because 0.8 × 0.9 = 0.72.
- Forgetting the direction of change — going from 100 to 50 is a 50% drop, but going back from 50 to 100 is a 100% rise. The same absolute change is a different percentage depending on the starting point.
